Small 17th Century Oak Coaching Table with Provenance c. 1670
About the Item
A very small and charming 17th century oak coaching table with a really excellent natural and deep patina and a great colour. Pretty and original and dating from c. 1670.
The top with a lovely raised carved border to the table bed and drop leaf.
With provenance, formerly in the renowned antique furniture collection of a high profile millionaire.
Good wine table height and pegged throughout, cast iron hinges. Stands firm and solid and the leaf extends properly to give a flat surface.
No worm. Minor dings and marks and an old loss to the end of a tenon of one stretcher, not affecting structure and not requiring restoration.
A beautiful and rare survivor.

19 inches deep, 15 inches wide with leaf extended (has only ever had a single leaf and single gateleg) 7 inches wide when leaf is dropped and height is 25.5 inches.

The tall upholstered back over spiral turned legs and original spiral and bulb turned stretchers. In very good condition for age with some small old dings, some old woodworm, long long dead and a couple of small very old repairs - not affecting structure. The chair is extremely comfortable and solid with a good width between the arms, deep well padded seat and gentle rake to the padded back. Upholstered in a moss green high quality velvet with matching fringed braid in very good condition also.
