Turned Wood Side Table with Barley Twist Stem
About the Item
A turned wood side table with barley twist stem and heavy base. First half twentieth century, perhaps English or French. Reminiscent of the work of Charles Dudouyt (1885-1946).
The wood - possibly oak - has been stained with a mid-to-dark finish. The stem and base are nicely turned; the stem attaches to the top through a small plug in the centre, which is slightly raised. The turned base sits on three bun feet.
The table has been well-used and has signs of wear from age and use throughout. There is an area of old scratches on the top, and other scratches and small digs elsewhere. The stem has a historic split at the base, which looks stable, and the stem has been repaired where it meets the top and foot. We have described the condition as distressed to draw attention to these points.
