About the Item

This beautiful and exceptional Victorian gilded side table was build circa 1870 in Germany. The piece is in its original condition and has a wonderful Patina. The marquetry is in burr walnut and different fruit woods which is very nice. The round straw inlay which shows a parrot is very beautiful. The round base is turned and as you can see on the photos it can be unscrewed from the top. Also the gilding has some very special details. The table is from such good quality and has an old inventory mark that it comes pretty sure from the royal court of Berlin. A elegant piece of furniture which is a great eye-catcher for your antique, modern, Space Age or mid-century interior. If you have any more questions we are very happy to help and send you more details, photos, videos, a shipping quote or information. All pieces are looked after in our own restoration workshop. We also can do new upholstery cover or other special requests. Please ask. Victorian: In British history, the Victorian Age (also known as the Victorian Era) is usually referred to as the long period of Queen Victoria's government from 1837 to 1901. Some historians have attempted to define a different period with certain characteristics of "Victorianism", but the proposals vary widely. During the Victorian era, Britain's economy flourished. This was largely because the Industrial Revolution now had its effects on mining and engineering, and for a long time gave Britain a technological edge. Especially the Expansion of the railway network had far-reaching effects. The Neo-Gothic: The Neo-Gothic or English Gothic Revival, is a historicist art and architectural style of the 19th century that goes back to the Gothic period. Neo-Gothic is one of the earliest stylistic subspecies of Historicism, which drew on art and architectural styles of the previous two millennia. At the centre of the spread of neo-Gothic was a comprehensive range of buildings and furnishings that found its way into literature and lifestyle. The formal language of the neo-Gothic style was oriented towards an idealized medieval image. It blossomed between 1830 and 1900. Under the IDEA of taking up the freedom and intellectual culture of medieval cities, mainly churches, parliaments, town halls and universities, but also other public buildings such as post offices, schools and railway stations were built in the neo-Gothic style. According to Erwin Panofsky, the Gothic Revival was characterized by a romantic longing for an irretrievable past, whereas the Renaissance strove to win a new future from the old.
