  • Vintage Drexel Heritage Hispana Brutalist Walnut Nightstand Chest Side Table
    By Drexel
    Located in Dayton, OH
"Vintage Hispana Drexel Heritage low chest, nightstand or side table, circa 1960s. Made of walnut featuring two drawers with paneled fronts, brass knocker pulls, and turned bun feet. Item number 493-312-6. Drexel Furniture Company was established 1903 in Drexel, North Carolina. Although Samuel Huffman managed the enterprise, he and five other men founded the business with an investment of $14,000. By 1935, Sam Huffman died, and his son Robert O. Huffman became president. The younger Huffman made several changes in operations, including manufacturing medium-priced furniture instead of low-priced and spending more on advertising. By 1950, Drexel had grown from a small factory of fifty workers who made dressers and washstands to being a leading manufacturer in traditional and modern furniture. In the process, the company had partnered with other manufacturers to create new product lines. In 1951, for instance, Drexel acquired Table Rock Furniture and Heritage Furniture Company, and in 1956, Morganton Furniture Company. By 1957, Drexel employed 2,300 workers, and its furniture was sold nationwide in approximately 2,500 stores. By the late 1960s, the company manufactured laboratory, dormitory and hospital...

  • Davis Cabinet French Country Walnut Serpentine Commode Chest Table Nightstand
    By Davis Cabinet Company
    Located in Dayton, OH
"Vintage Davis Cabinet Company commode or side table. Made of Walnut featuring square serpentine form with two drawers, carved accents and cabriole legs. Circa late 20th century, Nashville Tennessee. These words of our venerable leader introduce this short history of our firm which began in 1929. There are certainly older furniture companies ---- and obviously younger ones, but quite likely, none with a more romantic history or a more Horatio Alger-like history than ours. Davis Cabinet Company began as the dream of one man, Lipscomb ""Lip"" Davis, and as is the case with most dreams, this one ---- the impractical idea of building fine furniture from solid wood ---- was thought to be an impossibility. Wood, like steel and iron and most other substances, expands and contracts with climate changes. Furniture built of solid wood must of necessity rack itself to pieces through the inexorable changes of expansion and contraction. Lipscomb Davis thought otherwise. His personal philosophy might be expressed as ""Anything can be accomplished if it is done correctly"", and to this end he had already conceived and engineered a startling new concept of free floating construction that would allow the solid wood case construction to move at will . . . . naturally . . . and thereby avoid the stresses of climatic change. The opportunity to test the idea came dramatically in 1929 ---- but we're getting a bit ahead of our story. While Davis Cabinet Company was formed in 1929, it really had its beginnings around the turn of the century as a sawmill located near Fifth Street on the banks of the Cumberland River. The mill produced lumber from logs rafted down the river from neighboring forests. A ready market existed for most of the high grade lumber turned out by the mill. But, in order to utilize their entire production, the enterprising mill owners formed a subsidiary business, Standard Furniture Company. Here, they manufactured primarily veneered bedroom suites and sewing machine cabinets...

"Iconic Mid-Century Modern Fratelli Saporiti Italian bedside dressers, nightstands or chests by Giovanni Offredi, circa 1970s. Made of high gloss birdseye featuring six drawers and two lifting compartments for books, jewelry or valuables. Provenance : Jerome Schottenstein Estate, Columbus Ohio. Since 1950, Saporiti Italia produces some of the most sophisticated and advanced pieces of furniture of the history of Italian design. There is a leit motiv in all the company's creations: each new piece is history in itself. Catching time off balance and anticipating the future are both the Challenge and the vocation of Saporiti Italia. Each item created and constructed by the company is slightly ahead of its time and it is destined to last, both in form and function, until the next era. The company, founded in 1950 by Mr. Sergio Saporiti and still under control of the Saporiti family, has contributed to the creation of milestones in the history of Italian design. During these decades of fast growing economy and fast changing social environment, Saporiti Italia set its particular international and avant-garde style. The first pieces of furniture of the Saporiti of the times were clearly influenced by emerging Scandinavian design, but with a special touch of Italian elegance in the use of finishing and materials. In 1965 Sergio Saporiti started a fruitful and “scientific” collaboration with one of the masters of Italian architecture and design of all times: Alberto Rosselli. Together they created a series of pieces of furniture – the Jumbo chair...
