This is an old Japanese black wooden box.
It is from the Meiji period (1860s-1900s).
The material is cedar.
It is a lean design.
It has no unnecessary metal fittings.

This is black and beautiful.
Why is it black?
It is because of soot.
In Japan, there is a culture of Irori (hearth).
When soot from the hearth gets on the box, it turns black like this.
After many years of use, it has become a very deep color.
It can also be used as a sofa table.
It is very rare.
