About the Item
This is a large, old Japanese wooden box.
It is believed to date from around the Meiji period and is made of pine and cedar.
A type of folk item used in the early modern period, this rectangular wooden box was used to store clothing, bedding, and other items.
The front has faded to a brown color at the bottom, gradually darkening toward the top, creating a beautiful pattern that has aged over time. The gradation of the dark brown and sooty black of aged wood is beautifully expressed.
The flat top makes it suitable for use as a sofa table or side table. It can also be used as a display table, displaying vases and pottery to highlight the displayed items and create a beautiful view. The lid can be opened to store items inside, so it can also be used for storage.
Its simple design and shape make it an inconspicuous addition to any space, adding a touch of color to any space. It is an item that adds a touch of wabi-sabi beauty to any space.
