About the Item

16th Century German oak monk's bench / centre table Rare 16th Century German oak monk's bench / centre table, the near circular twin boarded top with underside locators pegged to shaped trestle ends; high boarded undershelf becomes a seat; sledge feet joined by a centre stretcher. The pegs and wedges have mainly been replaced, but apart from a fillet of oak added in the middle of the top because of the shrinkage of the timber it seems to be in original condition. Provenance: from Barrow Court in Somerset, England
