About the Item
A superb flame Mahogany and Marquetry early 19th C library table
This beautiful library table dates to the William IIII Period, Circa 1835. It has a superb top which is veneered in book-matched flame mahogany with a broad band of exquisite foliate and scroll marquetry in ebony and satinwood. Further enhanced with a narrow cross banded boarder. The edge is also crossbanded to match. Below, there are two drawers to the front which are also veneered in flame mahogany with original gilt brass knobs. On the reverse there are two matching panels and, on either side, supporting the top there are ornate acanthus and scroll carved brackets. The table stands on trestle end supports which are braced on a finely turned stretcher. The supports come down onto a shaped bracket that flows into T-bar feet which are also foliate carved and, on the underside, there are the original sunken brass castors.
