18th Century, Italian Neoclassical Gilded and Red Lacquered Wood with Marble Top
Located in IT
18th Century, Italian neoclassical gilded and red lacquered wood with marble top
Piedmont, Italy, second half of the 18th century.
This fine piedmontese console table (northern Italy) is made of hand carved wood, richly gilded with red lacquered background. It have a marble top presumably of the Pyrenees.
The refined console is a rare object for the coloring in red lacquer, quite unusual.
On the front a large drawer has comfortable carved and gilded knobs and decorative gilded carvings with a geometric pattern reserve on the lower part and a central medallion with male head placed in profile inside a round, with a big bow on the top.
The neoclassical object...

Rosewood Dining Table with Glass Top, Joaquim Tenreiro, 1947, Midcentury Brazil
Located in New York, NY
This exquisitely crafted dining table, designed by Joaquim Tenreiro (1906-1992) in 1947, evokes a refined coexistence of traditional values and modern aesthetics. Its delicate shapes give the impression that the pieces float in the space.
Tenreiro came to see the often heavy, overstuffed pieces that dominated the market as being incompatible with a tropical country like Brazil. He promoted furniture that was formally light, as described in his own words: “Lightness, which has nothing to do with the weight per se, but with grace and functionality in space.”
Our pieces present original stamps of Tenreiro Móveis e Decorações...

George III Period Satinwood Pembroke Table
Located in Lymington, GB
A late 18th century satinwood Pembroke table of very good rich color.
George III period.
The top crossbanded in satinwood, bordered with fine lozenges of ebony stringing.
The edges ebonized with narrow mahogany crossbandings.
Raised on moulded tapering legs, indicative of a date circa 1770.
The frieze with two working mahogany-lined short drawers retaining the original gilt-brass Rococo mounts.
The two leaves are supported on the original recessed hinged ‘ear’ supports.
Overall in lovely original state. Some minor historic marks entirely commensurate with its age. Very good patination.
These antique Pembroke tables were designed to be versatile: as small supper tables; occasional tables; tea tables; or lamp tables - sometimes also referred to as ‘drop leaf’ or ‘sofa’ tables.
The majority of these Georgian tables are raised on square tapering legs or, when of a later date, on turned legs. It is more unusual for a satinwood Pembroke table to be raised on moulded tapering legs.
Interestingly, Thomas Sheraton (1751-1806) mentions the Pembroke table as follows: “a type of breakfast table from the name of the lady who first gave orders for one of them”, possibly referring to the Countess of Pembroke, of Wilton House, Salisbury, (1737-1831).
A similar George III satinwood Pembroke table...

English Late 18th Century Console Table with Marble Top and Carved Apron
Located in Atlanta, GA
An English console table from the late 18th century, with marble top, cabriole legs, fluted apron, carved shell and lion paw feet. Created in England during the last decade of the 18th century, this wooden console table features a rectangular white and grey marble top with rounded corners in the front, sitting above a carved apron. Accented with fluted motifs, behind which a sinuous line exposes its graceful scrolls, the apron is adorned with a central carved Saint James shell with traces of a yellow and black polychromy standing discreetly out on the natural patina of the rest of the structure. The table is raised on four cabriole legs resting on finely detailed lion paw feet with acanthus leaf accentuation. The sides echo the same décor while the back is simply painted. With its graceful lines, marble top, skillfully executed décor and natural patina, this late 18th century English console table...

Antique Swiss Country Pay Table
Located in Forney, TX
An early European oak pay table with beautiful, rich, rustic, elegantly aged patina.
Born in Switzerland in the 18th century, likely in the Swiss Alps near the French border, hand-crafted of high-quality solid oak, the Baroque period table is in exceptional shape, very strong and sturdy, excellent craftsmanship, quality and detailing throughout.
Having a rectangular two board top with banded inlay, above a single large frieze drawer, retaining the original forged iron handle, the sides accented with wooden pegged mortise through-tenoned joinery that allows the tabletop to lift off the base quickly, the pegs over a shaped apron with heart form cutout and carved scalloped edge ornamentation, rising on four hand turned splayed baluster-form tapered legs joined by a plank box stretcher, ending in ball feet.
Provenance:
Acquired from the estate of the late T. Boone Pickens (1928-2019). An American business magnate, billionaire, financier, and philanthropist.
Acquisition:
J. Garrett Auctioneers had the pleasure of presenting Pickens' collection of 18th and 19th Century furnishings and accessories.
The breadth of T. Boone Pickens' career is impressive. He built one of the largest independent natural gas oil companies in the United States and flourished as an entrepreneur thereafter, generating hundreds of billions of dollars in the process. Among his lengthy accolades, Time magazine has identified him one of its "100 Most Influential People", Financial World named him "CEO of the Decade" in 1989, and Oil and Gas Investor identified him as one of the "100 Most Influential People of the Petroleum Century."
