Antique French Octagon sofa table carved oak Barley Twist Louis XIII Renaissance.
Direct from France, a fabulous antique French octagon table, with impressive details, including barley twist legs and barley twist cross stretchers. This style table was originally used in late Victorian era French homes and castles with large tapestry or “throne” chairs…thus the large scale and ornate Renaissance carvings!
In today’s home this table would make a statement in any room, often used as a foyer, hall or end table and placement is easy, as it can “float” in the middle of your room because there’s no “backside”.
Octagon top has a large carved band with carved beveled edges above the extra wide lower apron that features eight alternating carved panels of winged cherub faces and Black Forest florals and foliate.
The thick barley twist legs terminate with carved block joints above the large bun feet and feature a barley twist cross stretcher with a center carved block. Well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1900.
Measurements: 29.5” ht. x 27.5” x 27.5” (flat edge to flat edge). 29.5” x 29.5” approx. tip edge across to tip edge.
