Crinkle Crankle Table by Dirk Meylaerts

About the Item

Crinkle Crankle Table by Dirk Meylaerts Dimensions: W 85 x D 210 x H 74 cm Materials: Pearwood. To efficiently generate a volume using a minimal amount of material, I employ the concept akin to the British “crinkle crankle” wall technique, in which a single layer of bricks sustains their stability. In my approach, I employ small boards that, when combined, form a sturdy and functional trestle or tripod. Biography: After a short career as an actor and dancer in Jan Fabre’s theatre piece The Power of Theatrical Madness, he decided to pursue a career in furniture making. He studied cabinetmaking at Les Arts et Metiers in Brussels and trained under master cabinet maker Ralf Hillenbrand, who taught him all the technical aspects of the craft. After three years, he began working as an independent cabinet maker and designer, a career that spanned 25 years. In 2003, he organized several auction sales of prototypes by fellow designers, in collaboration with the auction house Pierre Bergé in Brussels. In 2006, he founded D&A Lab, a company that produced limited series of functional design objects, conceived by contemporary artists such as Jonathan Monk, Pierre Bismuth, Ann Veronica Janssens, Koen Van den Broek, and many others. The company regularly participated in Design Basel, Design Miami, Form London, and other events. In 2012, he was invited to become the director of production at the Fondation des Galeries Lafayette in Paris, a role that allowed him to collaborate with artists like Lutz Bacher, Hella Jongerius, Katinka Bock, Tarik Kiswanson, and Martin Margiela. In 2020, like many others, the Corona pandemic led him to reassess his life’s work. Together with his family, he decided to leave the city and move to the French countryside to rekindle his old passion for cabinetmaking.

IPN Table by Dirk Meylaerts
Located in Geneve, CH
IPN Table by Dirk Meylaerts Dimensions: W 90 x D 300 x H 74 cm Materials: Steel, Pearwood. Generally, a tabletop can be constructed with boards used length or width-wise. When one uses the boards lengthwise, the tabletop cannot be longer than the size of the tree. A tabletop assembled in width, on the other hand, has the advantage of not being limited in length size: in theory, you can multiply the boards endlessly and create a very long table. I use two metal beams (available in any length) to support this very long tabletop. This system allows the boards their necessary leeway. The tabletop can be fixed to the metal beams by two bolts. Two trestles constitute the feet of the table. They can be put at the end of the table, or more towards the center, as one wishes. Interference Table by Dirk Meylaerts Dimensions: W 120 x D 400 x H 74 cm Materials: Walnut. Also available in different dimensions. Please contact us. The slits between the three boards of the tabletop allow an interference between the sleek surface at the top and the complex structure underneath, and between the hands and the feet of the one who is sitting at the table. The central beam underneath functions as the backbone of the table, keeping everything together. The table can be dismantled. Table for Artists by Dirk Meylaerts
Located in Geneve, CH
Table for Artists by Dirk Meylaerts Dimensions: W 80 x D 192 x H 74 cm Materials: Pearwood. "I wanted to create a light table that can be used as a polyvalent desk. An elegant solution for this multifunctionality is to make tabletop and feet independent. Moreover, this allows me to give the trestles a sculptural quality. The tabletop is made of pearwood boards glued together, supported by two beams that are fixed permanently with long dovetails. The beams allow the tabletop to breathe freely." Bamboo Bench by Dirk Meylaerts Dimensions: W 50 x D 163 x H 20 cm Materials: Cherrywood. What happens if you transmit the language of industrial piping found in the ceilings of factories into a wooden bench? The coldness of the metal transforms into the classy modesty of a Japanese tea ceremony table.
