Japanese Antique Large Table / Exhibition Table / 1912-1950s Wabi-sabi

About the Item

This is a table used by a sake brewing company (founded in the Edo period) in the Tohoku region of Japan. For a long time, it was placed in a place for people who worked in the company to rest and was used as an office work table for employees. It is estimated that it was probably made around the end of the Taisho period, repeatedly restored, and used while changing the use. There must have been a time when it was used as a workbench in the sake brewing process. Half of the top surface has peeled off the paint due to aging, and it has changed to a natural and quaint beauty. The other half is sparsely painted like lacquer. The top surface is estimated to be Rawan wood, and cedar is used for the legs. There is some distortion at the top, but it's not that much of a concern. It is assembled accurately without the use of nails, and you can see the high skill of the craftsmen at that time. The very large, almost square silhouette will give off a unique presence as an exhibition table in a large space. Weight: 52.5kg
