About the Item
B-150 Table, in extrusioned aluminium with natural oak legs.
Designed by Konstantin Grcic in 2021, manufactured by BD Barcelona.
Konstantin Grcic opened the Extrusions collection with the Table B, in 2009. Grcic has been inspired by classic BD pieces, such as the Hypóstila shelf unit (in production since 1979), in developing a tabletop of extruded aluminium with a minimal profile and for lengths of up to 500 cm.
Now the family grows with the Big Table B, same concept, same design, but with a wider top, 150 cm. Available in various finishes, in silver anodized aluminium; or laminated in a simil oak or in colour. Its apparent simplicity hides a complex technical development in which senior engineers have been involved. In counterpoint, the production also includes several manual processes. The result is a highly crafted piece with all the character of the German designer.
Materials:
Tabletop in extrusioned aluminium with open ends cut at 45º. There is the option of the surface being laminated in a natural oak effect with a varnished finish. Legs in natural oak coated in transparent water-based varnish.
About the designer:
Born in Munich in 1965?1985-1987. Apprenticeship as cabinet maker at Parnham College, UK, 1988-1990 MA in Industrial Design, Royal College of Art, London.??Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID) was founded in 1991. The office specializes in various fields of design ranging from furniture and industrial products to exhibition design and architecture related work. KGID is working for some of the leading names of the international design industry.?Many of Konstantin Grcic´s products have received international design awards (a.o. winner of the Compasso d`Oro for the lamp MAYDAY in 2001) and form part of the permanent collections of the world´s most prestigious museums (MoMA / New York, Centre Georges Pompidou / Paris, Die Neue Sammlung / Munich amongst others). In June 2005 PHAIDON Press London published the first comprehensive monography about the work of Konstantin Grcic. Konstantin Grcic defines function in human terms, combining formal strictness with considerable mental acuity and humour. Each of his products is characterized by his careful research into the history of design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials. Known for pared-down pieces, Grcic is often called a minimalist but the designer himself prefers to speak of simplicity.
About BD Barcelona:
Accompanied with artisanal processes instead of mass production, their products always have more proximity to art than industrial design.
