"Orbit" Table by Elliott Barnes, Inspired by Eileen Gray

About the Item

The “Orbit” table was inspired by the e1027 table designed by Eileen Gray. Thinking of an object for a couple (Eileen and Jean) the table consists of two tables at two different height and diameters. Their shape is a non-tubular interpretation of the iconic Eileen Gray table. This table was exhibited at "AD Collections 2015" in Paris at the Ministry of Foreign Affaires, Quai d'Orsay. Elliott Barnes’s creative process is prompted by a stream of consciousness uniting the common denominators of often imperceptible details and peculiarities from various possibilities and impossibilities. It explores the familiar and the popular, and through narrative and abstraction proposes objects that are recognizable yet novel. The openness of his approach has created unique modern narrative solutions for apartments, villas, hotels, restaurants, and clubs all-over the world, as well as furniture collections that have been met with international acclaim. As a result, each one of his projects stands on its own. Visually speaking, Elliott’s work is of its time. Even though some details of his objects and may reference or incorporate elements from other periods and styles, the overall feeling is resolutely contemporary. The key to his expression is rooted in refined detailing. The correct articulation and arrangement of details gives a voice to any object. Elliott selects materials in a way that connects a work to a place, a moment or an emotion, while simultaneously leaving room for his creations to Stand the test of time. Recently, Elliott has begun to use the acronym ACT (art, Craft & technology) in reference to the execution of his furniture and objects. He confesses to being preoccupied by the ‘formal’ beauty of things - their practicality, their technicality, their functionality and thus, their beauty. He is a firm believer that the harmonization of these qualities results in work that is perennial. "Un objet n’existe que par rapport à nos présences, nos respirations". Superposition of transparencies for this table with two pieces connected at the base by a concealed circular ball bearing track. This track allows the tables to rotate or orbit around each other. Their structure is in chrome-plated steel and the inserts are in blue tinted glass. The “Orbit” table is produced and sold in a limited edition of 5. Series 2/5 is on sale at €9.000,00 euros. The designer Elliott Barnes is an interior designer who marches to the beat of his own drum. After completing his education in architecture and urban design from Cornell University, Elliott left behind his native home of Los Angeles to explore the design world in Paris after a chance encounter with legendary interior designer, Andrée Putman. Following 7 years as director of her firm, Elliott branched out on his own and, in 2004, established Elliott Barnes Interiors as a vehicle to express his own view for the creation of forms, surfaces and interior spaces.
