About the Item

Alain Richard (1926 - 2017) is a famous French designer who quickly established himself as one of the most brilliant representatives of his generation. After graduating top of his class from the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in 1949, he joined his former teacher René Gabriel's studio, before moving to the Netherlands on Gabriel's death. The young designer then collaborated with Hein Salomonson's firm, before setting up his own design office in Paris in 1952 with his wife Jacqueline Iribe, a designer of furnishing textiles. Rigorously functional, his first pieces of furniture were first published by Lavrilleux and Charron, then by Meubles TV, where Alain Richard worked and designed several pieces with André Monpoix. Together, they designed the Banquette 195 (1954). A success among others, it was awarded the Prix de la Triennale de Milan in 1954 and, ten years later, the Prix René Gabriel. Alain Richard's talented career continued in the 70s, with frequent commissions from the Mobilier national, the design of numerous museums, and projects for major hotel groups, winter sports resorts and BNP, which entrusted him with the furnishings of numerous prestigious branches around the world. At the end of his career, he devoted himself to teaching. the table 200 was published by meuble TV, one of the major publishers of the time. It measures 180 cm when the extension is in use, and 130 cm when the extension is folded away to the side. It can be used as a dining table for 8 people, or as a desk that adapts to its user.

  • Coffee Table "Prefacto" by Pierre Guariche, Airborne, 1952
    By Pierre Guariche
    Located in PARIS, FR
Coffee Table "Prefacto" by Pierre Guariche, Airborne 1952 ln 1951, inspired by folded, bent and curved steel tubes combined with wood, Guariche designed Préfacto, a furniture programme that could be dismantled. For the production subsidiary destined for Airborne communities, Pierre Guariche created a line that broke down into three elements: a coffee table, a chair and a wing chair. Thanks to this material that was used by industry, he could produce objects in large series. Aesthetic, functional and economical furniture was suited to the reduced size of post-war apartments. The forms were free, the lines curved and the irregular breaks challenged strict functionalism. This coffee is composed of an oak wood top and a base in tubular steel. Pierre Guariche (1926 - 1995) is one of the mythical French designers of the 1950s who made his mark on his era with pieces of pure aestheticism, functional and accessible. A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Arts décoratifs, he published his first models on his own, including the famous Rotaflex lamp, which he exhibited at the Salon des Arts ménagers and then the Salon des Artistes décorateurs. It was a great success with the public and quickly aroused the interest of publishers. Pierre Guariche then created furniture, lighting and decorative objects for Airborne, Pierre Disderot and Steiner. In 1954, he also joined forces with the decorators Michel Mortier and Joseph-André Motte, with whom he founded the Atelier de recherche plastique. The ARP then devoted itself to the creation of furniture for the living room, dining room and bedroom for Charles Minvielle. At the end of the 1950s, as artistic director of the Belgian furniture manufacturing company Meurop, he gradually turned to interior design. In 1965 he received the René Gabriel prize. Pierre Guariche's original creations have become iconic pieces such as the Amsterdam chair...
