George III Period Mahogany Tilt-Top Dessert Table, circa 1780
About the Item
A George III period tilt-top dessert table in mahogany, with a 'pie-crust' edge and featuring carved shell and rocaille designs. The table is mounted through a bird-cage action on a mahogany pedestal, allowing the table to rotate 45 degrees in a given direction. The base is composed of three carved cabriole legs, carved with acanthus leaf designs, and ending in ball-and-claw feet.

The three tiers all with moulded edges and richly-coloured mahogany, and the lower two levels freely rotating around the stem.
The central column in solid mahogany, with spiral-fluted and moulded designs throughout, and resting atop a tripodal base with graceful down-swept legs ending in spade feet on castors.
