About the Item

An Extremely Attractive And Very Good Quality Georgian 18th Century, Chippendale Period, Mahogany Wine Table, Of Lovely Rich Colour And Patina Throughout, Having Very Well Figured Circular Tilting Dish Top With Attractive Moulded Rim, Raised On Elegant Turned Central Column With Three Tripod Legs Featuring Attractive Foliate Carved Decoration And Carved Scrolling Toes.  This is exactly what one would wish to find in a genuine 18th century occasional table. It is constructed from rich, dense mahogany timbers, resulting in real sturdiness and weight to the piece, highlighting its overall quality. Because of the high grade mahogany timber which was used for its construction it also retains a lovely untouched colour and surface. There are of course a few old marks blemishes to the top but these all add to its history and are something which it would be impossible to lose without taking away the lovely surface which has been built up over hundreds of years.  The table also boasts a very elegant column, again from rich timbers and a very elegant base indeed. The carved decoration to the top of each leg is a very classy feature and has real depth to it, as does the carving within the scrolling toes which manage to create a real addtional elegance when viewing the piece from afar.  In terms of fucntionality and places one could use it then the possibilities are endless. With a practical dish moulded top which is a great size it would suit a whole host of spaces around the home and also it is worth noting that the table is extremely sturdy. As with all items which we offer for sale this lovely chippendale occasional table has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled and trained antique furniture restorers, who have ensured it is in peak condition whilst giving it a natural wax polish before placing it on sale, ensuring that it is ready for immediate placement. A Very Good Quality Late 18th Century, George III Period, Mahogany Wine Table, Having Well Figured Circular Tilting Top Retaining Untouched Colour And Patina With Strung Decoration, Over Elegant Baluster Turned Column With Umbrella Tripod Legs. A simple, elegant and beautiful little table, which is also incredibly functional, this is of relatively typical design for the late 18th century georgian period. Boasting rich, dense, mahogany timbers, alongside a good untouched colour and patina, in combination with the subtle strung inlaid decoration to the edge of the top it has a real touch of class and exudes elegance. The perfect size for an absolute host of spaces around the home, it is both beautiful and practical. It would work just as well alongside a sofa or library chair in the living room to place a drinks glass on top of, as it would in the drawing room with a lamp perched atop, or even in the bedroom as a bedside table. Antique English 18th Century Early Georgian Dish Top Bird Cage Tripod Table
Located in Glasgow, GB
A handsome 18th century early Georgian mahogany tripod tea table with a dish top. It features a solid figured mahogany circular tilt-top with single reeded line to the outer curved edge, with a bird cage mechanism to a turned baluster shaped column raised on outswept cabriole legs with pad feet. Retaining a good original colour and patination and original brass catch. This is a better quality example of its type being moderately larger, the top being from a single piece of mahogany and having the slight lip to the outer edge, due to the dish top, and curved underedge, in addition the birdcage mechanism lets the top rotate without lifting the entire table. The tilt-top allows the table to be displayed at the side of the room when not in use (and the birdcage also means the top can be faced out with the legs arranged pointing into a corner, or flat against a wall). This is a typically plain and robust George II example dating to c.1730-1750. The overall dimensions at the largest points are approximately Width - 33.865in (86cm) Depth - 33.75in (85.5cm) Height - 28.75 (73cm) The top can be separated from the base by removal of a wedge in the birdcage. Note: The tripod table (or ‘pillar and claw...
