An English George II period mahogany tripod table from the mid-18th century, with pie-crust tilt-top, turned baluster stem and carved cabriole legs. Born during the third quarter of the 18th century, this English mahogany table features a circular tilt-top with pie-crust edge, resting on a bird-cage mechanism. Tripod tables were often used as tea tables, the tilt-tops allowing them to be folded and stored away easily. Our table is raised on a lovely baluster stem, adorned with a spirally turned motif. Creating a perfect conclusion to this elegant ensemble, the table rests on three Rococo cabriole legs, accented with acanthus leaves surrounding a central medallion on the knees, and ending in ball-and-claw feet.
