About the Item

This is an elegant and beautifully proportioned solid hardwood, possibly walnut, tripod table or wine table with a tilting top and dates to the Mid Georgian Chippendale period, circa 1760. The circular top is made from one-piece of solid hardwood, possibly walnut which has a finely figured grain and lovely mellow color. The top tilts and is fixed to a square block which locks into place with a brass snap lock catch. The solid slightly tapering stem is particularly good with a well carved fluted spiral baluster at its base. The three legs are dovetailed into the stem and have a good spread with carved feet. This table has lovely proportions and has developed a good color and patination from well over 250 years of use. Approximate dimensions Measures: Top diameter 18.88 inches. Leg spread width 20 inches. Height 27.5 inch This is a very decorative and versatile table.
