A charming Provincial Louis XV period confiturier with beautifully aged rich patina. Hand-crafted of solid fruitwood, likely cherry-wood case and a thick walnut slab top with front and side serpentine shaped molded edge, over a rectangular solid wooden case with quality pegged joinery, a single key locking large cabinet door adorded with raised panel, ornate escutcheon plate and original iron lock, opening to a spacious interior fitted with later added shelf, flanked by paneled sides, a plank boarded back, over gently curving scalloped apron, rising on shaped bracket feet. circa 1770 As warm and attractive as it is functional, originally used to house confit pots, which were clay vessels for jams and preserves, this versatile piece is the ideal size and proportions for a variety of different uses in today's contemporary interiors, including use as a side cabinet, kitchen pantry cupboard...

A scarce French Provincial Louis XV (1715-1774) / Louis XVI (1774-1792) Period mixed wood religious oratory (prie-dieu / altar) Hand-crafted in France in the 18th century, with later 19th century elements, likely originating in the south of France / Mediterranean region, featuring pegged solid wooden construction of warm, rich fruitwood, chesnut, oak, and maple. Having a slant-front bureau with tall raised back decorated with three Renaissance Revival style high relief panels, the center depicting religious scene comprising Jesus and winged Saint, the side panels with foliate floral fruit pendant carvings, flanked by classical turned baluster-form columns, surmounted with highly stylized hand carved and turned finials. Over a slant-front with star parquetry, the hinged drop-front opens to reveal a distressed leather writing desk / lectern / pulpit on which the holy books can be laid open and allows to shelter the books, which were considered precious goods at that time. We are delighted to offer this exquisite fully restored Alfred Beurdeley attributed 19th century French Louis XV Kingwood Coiffeuse dressing table This is the best example of a Coiffeuse table I have ever seen. The marquetry inlay can only really be the work Alfred Beurdeley, it is sublime, musical and floral, all things he was well known for. Additionally the timber is King and tulip wood, walnut and mahogany, all materials he used when creating his marquetry masterpieces This table has been fully restored as mentioned, there were over 50 pieces of veneer missing, they have all been timber matched, replaced, stained and then the whole thing French polished from the ground up Dimensions Height:- 70cm Width:- 82.5cm Depth:- 46.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point Alfred Beurdeley, 1847-1919 Nationality: French Date of Birth: 1847 Place of Birth: Paris Place of Death: Paris Identity: Emmanuel-Alfred Beurdeley was a collector who came from a family of cabinetmakers, antique dealers and collectors. He was the illegitimate son of Louis-Auguste-Alfred Beurdeley (1808–82). His grandfather, Jean Beurdeley (1772–1853), who served in Napoleon's army, opened a small antique shop in the Marais district of Paris. In 1830 he bought the Pavillon de Hanovre, 28 Boulevard des Italiens, which became the Beurdeley firm's principal gallery until 1894. L.-A.-A. Beurdeley dealt in antiques and works of art and was also a cabinetmaker specializing in reproductions of seventeenth and eighteenth century furniture. His clients included Napoleon III and the Empress Eugénie. Life: In 1875 E.-A. Beurdeley took over his family's gallery and workshops and until 1894 concentrated on continuing the line of luxury furniture sold by his father. He was one of the most important Parisian cabinetmakers, and won a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1878. He was appointed Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1893 following the Universal Exhibition in Amsterdam. In 1895 he closed the Pavillon de Hanovre and retired to his hôtel in the Rue de Clichy. The rest of his life was spent acquiring and selling enormous collections of furniture, Chinese porcelain, paintings and drawings, including an extraordinary group of eighteenth century French drawings by François Boucher, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Nicolas Lancret and Antoine Watteau in 1905.
