19th Century Silver-Fitted Edwardian Dressing Table with Custom Interior

About the Item

A Fine Edwardian silver-fitted dressing table. Constructed from mahogany, with boxwood stringing and brass handles, the dressing table supported on splayed legs with stretchers and spandrels; the hinged top opening to reveal a velvet-lined and automatic sliding fitted interior with silver and glass dressing accoutrements including a mirror, perfume bottles, brushes, and jewellery boxes; housing a further velvet-lined drawer underneath and two slides to either side. The silver is hallmarked for the Birmingham firm of A & J Zimmerman in 1905, and the drawers are fitted with tamperproof Bramah locks. English, circa 1905 Dimensions: H: 34 in / 87 cm W: 27 in / 68 cm D: 18.5 in / 47 cm The Zimmerman silverware company was founded in Birmingham in 1879, specialising in luxury silver items such as picture frames and boxes. With their growing success, the company expanded with a London showroom, and registered as a limited company in 1902 when Zimmerman was at the height of its success.

    A mid-19th century lady’s travelling dressing case. The case is constructed in a finely marked coromandel, with inset brass handles and brass guard bands to the angles. The hinged lid rises to reveal in the upper section, a drop down document holder, with a mirror to the back, the parcel gilt pieces are engraved with a Viscountess’s coronet, probably Charles, 2nd Viscount Hardinge Cornwallis (1822-1894) and inset with turquoises and comprise a suite of four cut-glass jars, a liqueur flask with a fitted cup, the pull-out rear shelf houses seven jars for ink, potions and unguents.
