About the Item
An exquisite vanity table, petineuse, crafted in chestnut wood, featuring a hinged compartment with an integrated mirror. Exemplifying high-end Italian craftsmanship, this piece was designed in the 1950s.
With its enveloping silhouette, this dressing table welcomes those who sit before it with the gentle embrace of its design. At each end of the piece, two drawers open to reveal circular Art Deco-inspired knobs that, with their large and sculptural presence, transcend mere functionality. Lifting the tabletop unveils the pleasure of discovering a mirror that gracefully adjusts to provide the perfect angle for framing the face. This small yet richly detailed piece does not bow to vanity but asserts its aesthetic independence—a personality that transcends its function.
This dressing table rises above its somewhat delicate and traditional definition as a “mademoiselle’s” vanity table to proudly embody the essence of its design. The four sinuously carved legs are elegantly joined by a cross-stretcher, and the interplay of soft curves and sharp edges showcases the designer’s dedication to the pursuit of innovative forms. With its understated simplicity - note the delicate brass chain supporting the hinged tabletop when open - this piece stands as a historical design piece that still resonates with contemporary sensibilities.
The vanity has been carefully restored and refinished, presenting itself in excellent condition. Its beautiful patina and subtle signs of age enhance its charm and historical significance.
