About
This "ATOMS OF THE UNIVERSE" marquetry artwork is inspired by the Platonic Solids which The Ancient Greeks called the Atoms of the Universe as they form the basis of all structure.
This piece is made up of a combination of natural and dyed veneers. The central polygon motif has been sand-shaded for the 3D effect and incorporates several natural veneers including Swiss pear, oak Lacewood, Beech and Sycamore amongst others. It is set in a radial background of American walnut which has been bleached to give a 'firmament' effect and has an outline of pink dyed American Tulip.
The piece is 400X500mm and mounted on 15mm board with solid Walnut edges.

Woodpop
Emma Wood founded the w o o d p o p studio in Wales' Black Mountains which specialises in marquetry and inlay work. Since it's inception 10 years ago, the studio has gained a reputation for pairing the classic art-form of marquetry with contemporary subject matter and its application on to non-traditional surfaces. The studio prides itself on constantly challenging the limits of where and how marquetry can be applied and to that end they are the first designers to have ever successfully applied a full-scale marquetry artwork to fully-functioning wooden surfboards. In addition to this latest series of surfboards, w o o d p o p also creates bespoke wall art, custom furniture and site specific commissions.
