About the Item

A stunning abstract painting by Australian Aboriginal artist Nyurapayia Nampitjinpa (also known as Mrs. Bennett; 1935-2013). Entitled "Tjukurla Country", this work was acrylic on Belgium Linen and painted in 2005. The earthy colors and the composition are mesmerizing. The painting is housed in a custom wood frame. Provenance with full documentation: Flinders Lane Gallery, Melbourne, cat. no. FG05202. Private Collection, Victoria Lawson Menzies Pty, Sydney, Lot #43 Acquired in 2007 by The Kelton Foundation, Santa Monica The canvas side is 60 1/2 x 48 1/4 in. Born c.1935, Nyuapaiya Nampitjinpa was instrumental in the development of the Haasts Bluff/Kintore Women's Painting Camp in 1994. She inherited her mother's dreamings, which are connected to sites at Yumarra, Wantjunga and Tjalilli, rockholes near Papunya, Pukara, Ngalkinginga and Munkara. She passed away in 2013.
