About the Item
Eric Cahan has worked for several years as an editorial photographer, and his commercial work has been published in Elle Décor, Glamour, House and Garden, and Vogue Nippon. His fine art photography, characterized by an unfailing attention to color and detail, pushes the viewer to be present and connected with their natural surroundings, resulting in a sort of photographic nature walk.
Cahan's most recent series of photographs is entitled Color Theory: Sky. Influenced by the work of Agnes Martin, James Turrell, and Mark Rothko, these photographic abstractions are created by an intricate and painstaking process. In each photograph, Cahan captures both the dramatic and subtle changes of light at sunrise and sunset, and heightens the color saturation with the use of multiple cameras and filters. Similarly, the chromium printing of each photograph involves an obsessive attention to detail. Cahan will reprint the image as many times as necessary until the final rendering is seamless, without striations or blemishes. The result is something beyond technical description, evoking the emotion and presence of nature at its most sublime. As described by the artist: "The pictures I make only exist on the paper surface. I try to capture an unseen or rarely witnessed element in nature, hoping to lift the spirit and empower the viewer. I want the viewer to be drawn into this world, and be, for a time, completely absorbed in rather than separate from the image."

Fashion was an all encompassing self expression so it was because of this idea of materializing thoughts, desires and inspirations that she decided to devote her career to the editorial side of the fashion industry. After an internship at Rolling Stone Magazine and then formally starting her career as the assistant to the Fashion Director at Seventeen Magazine, Bonnie moved through the ranks at Glamour Magazine and MTV. She then settled into the position of Travel Editor at Sports Illustrated, where she navigated the world producing exotic and inspiring photo shoots for the magazine’s annual Swimsuit Issue.
