Modern Hiroshi Yasukawa Abstract Painting
About the Item
Hiroshi Yasukawa was born in Nagano Prefecture in Japan in 1931. After studying art in Osaka, he began a career as a painter and art teacher. At that time, Yasukawa mainly created figural motifs such as landscapes and portraits. In 1965 he went to Paris, where he met the pianist and later wife Ruriko. In 1971 he finally moved to France with her. His style of painting changes fundamentally as a result of the change of location: The result is a comprehensive oeuvre of abstract works, some of which are lyrical in their formal language, but mostly geometrical-constructivist. His cultural background, related to Chinese and Japanese philosophy and poetry, also play a special role in Yasukawa’s art. From 1974 he is represented in France, Italy and Japan at solo and group exhibitions, including the exhibitions in the “Salon Comparaisons”, the exhibition “Grands et Jeunes d’Aujoud’hui” and those of the “Salon d’Automne” in France would be called. He received the “International Prijs voor Schilderkunst” in Knokke-Heist, Belgium and in 1976 the bronze medal of the “Prix européen de peinture d‘Ostende” in Belgium.

After his football training at Montecatini, Carlo Galli's competitive career remained inextricably linked to that of coach Giuseppe Gipo Viani. He met the future coach of the national team in Lucca in 1949 and in the summer of that year, when Viani moved to the Palermo bench, Galli was signed by the Rosanerodal from Cascina.
Despite his stature, however, he was gifted in the aerial game and here Viani's contribution was decisive.
He succeeded in making him a centre forward who made the most of his characteristics, so much so that he was nicknamed the golden head, and on 8 December 1949 came his Serie A debut. On 18 December (Palermo Lazio 2-1) he scored his first Serie A goal.

Michelle Hénault is a Conceptual Fine Artist, born in Lachute, Quebec, living and working in Montreal since 1991. She completed a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts at UQAM in 1998. After exploring sculpture and photography, she dedicated herself to oil painting. She has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows over the last fifteen years. In 2010, she moved to Scotland with her partner for two years. Since returning to Montreal, she has devoted her time to oil painting and her work has flourished. Inspired by her many travels, her work explores landscapes as a contemplative territory. The desire to revisit past voyages through painting and to recapture the sentiments she experienced in various places was her primary motivation for producing these landscapes. "For the last fifteen years I have explored the reconstruction of landscapes in my painting. My practice is concerned with our relation to land as the memory of place. A land can be occupied, shared, transformed and dreamed, idealized. The land, as homeland or an idyllic land to travel to, where the memory is presupposed. Through my art, I explore that memory of travel, the journeys I made and the ones I dreamed. When contemplating a landscape and experiencing the change of light or atmosphere we realize the passage of time. As explorers from bygone eras, seeking unknown lands, my work proposes a return to the essential…that the French call ‘le bapteme de la solitude’. It is a unique sensation, and it has nothing to do with loneliness, for loneliness presupposes memory. Here, in this wholly mineral landscape lighted by stars like flares, even memory disappears; nothing is left but your own breathing and the sound of your heat beating. A strange, and by no means pleasant, process of reintegration begins inside you, and you have the choice of fighting against it, and insisting on remaining the person you have always been, or letting it take its course.
