Murmuration

About the Item

Murmuration captures the swooping mass of thousands of starlings as they flock in a fantastic acrobatic mass before roosting. This natural phenomenon occurs in the autumn and the massing is believed to be a way to deter predators as well as communicate good feeding areas. Artist Daniel Byrne captures the mesmerizing quality of the murmuration with his handwork. Each bird is fabricated by hand in robust paper-based materials with a metallic reflective quality, and a further five processes including printing, die cutting, scoring, folding into a three dimensional form, finishing and pinning to the back board. This work represents weeks of precision making, and the result is truly extraordinary and of exceptional quality. It is of course also a wonderful conversation piece for a room. As you move around in front of the piece the birds seem to move as the light reflects of their surface. Daniel Byrne transforms nature’s most arresting specimens into living beings by reimagining the poses and formations of real life and translating these into compositions that help us connect with them. He has a focus on the drama of the natural world and the potential of color and pattern presented in multiples. His work incorporates butterflies, with their varying colors and wing patterns, birds and fish, all lending themselves particularly well to graphic compositions Please note we have digitally added the frame. Framing will be done on purchase and takes 5-6 weeks in total. The frame shown is exactly as it will appear when finished. The frame has a bevelled inner edge, finished in farrow and ball off-black, and employing true view non-reflective glass which ensures that enjoyment of the work it protects is not interrupted. The artwork is labelled, signed and dated by the artist. The artist can be commissioned in scale, subject and frame choice.
