About the Item
Pair of 17th century Italian wood angel heads and original textile foliage with sun-ray fragments mounted on antique mercury glass mirrors.
Originally from a church in Tuscany, each artifact has been hand carved and naturally distressed with age. The angel faces are topped with antique textile foliage original to the angels. Each face is framed with sun-ray fragments. This type of fragment is found in artistic depictions of bright light, surrounding heavenly objects like sacred hearts or images of Mary. The fragments have been mounted onto two coordinating antique mercury mirrors.
The pair is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she transformed the piece and the period shows that the Italian artifacts are originally 17th century.
The pair have been preserved and placed onto the antique mercury mirrors to create symmetrical works of art to grace any wall, creating a beautiful artistic work of historical and ecclesiastical significance.
