About the Item

Richard T. Titlebaum "Cristina" Abstract Figural Mixed Media This is an original mixed media work on paper by American artist Richard Titlebaum. It is entitled "Cristina." The piece is signed, titled and dated "4.80 12.82" lower right. This piece is surrealistic in style, employing bright colors and a feeling of texture and movement. This one provides a great pop of color for any room. Richard T. Titlebaum (1939-2006) was an American artist, writer, literature professor, and antiquarian book collector. He attended Harvard, where he received a BA, MA, and PhD in English Literature. He taught at several different universities until 1976, when he decided to devote himself full-time to painting. His work combined themes from surrealism, classical Greek literature and gay pride. He made drawings, watercolors and oils, producing dreamy landscapes or scenes inspired by ancient history and myth. Think folk art + Klee + Greek urns. He was especially interested in Middle Eastern history and the Jewish Revolts, which is often reflected in his painting. During his career, Titlebaum showed widely in the US and Israel and won many awards for his art. His work can be found in the Fogg Art Museum, the permanent collection of the Leslie-Lohman Gay Art Foundation in New York City, Liberty University and the Miami City Hall. Measurements are as follows: Framed Piece - 33" W x 41" H x 2" D Image Size - 17.75" W x 23" H
