We added new hangers, and the bronze figures retain their original patinated finish. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-20th Century. If you are a lover of arts and culture, we have the perfect plaques for you!! We have four marvelous cast bronze Asian figures articulating extraordinary expressions of what we believe to be visual arts, culinary arts, musical arts, and performance arts. Each cast bronze figure is mounted upon a rectangular freshly painted black plywood base plaque, each bearing differing patina or signs appropriate with age such as nicks or dings that we feel only enhance the beauty of their presence. As a matter of fact, this particular set of four was among my mother’s personal collection for many years, so it holds a special place in my heart for sure!! In our research we discovered that Gansu is a province in north-central China. Its city Jiayuguan is best known for the magnificent Great Wall. Awesome!! Each cast bronze figure exudes their own form of art, celebrating life and all of the beauty that comes with it. One holds a serving tray with a couple of glasses and a carafe… in my world there is probably a delicious red wine inside that carafe just waiting to pass through my lips!! Whatever it may be, it must be something lovely, delicious, and a bit mysterious! Another figure embraces an incredible sculpture that drapes from the tip of her shoulder, under her arm, and secretly swoops behind her. Behold… a vision of loveliness left to your imagination … a puzzling and optically pleasing piece of artistry. While another figure proudly plays a flute, twinkling their fingers across the keys… filling the air with joyful notes & sounds that tickle your ears… But let’s not leave out the last figure dancing blissfully to the beat… skipping and shuffling her bare feet in the sand. And did you notice everyone is dressed to the T’s!! Gorgeous cloaks, gowns, Hanfu, headdresses, obis, wraps, and jewels!! What a PARTY!!! And it’s all for YOU!! There are many ways to display this set of four whether in a cluster, one above the other-stacked vertically, all four horizontally, two side-by-side and two beneath, or whatever arrangement you choose. They even look spectacular on easels displayed on a shelf or fireplace mantle! They are going to be marvelous on ANY wall… trust me, I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying their visual company for several years! You will NOT be disappointed! This gorgeous group of four is ready to grace your home with their incredible presence, inspire joy, and hopefully intrigue you with all forms of art from their magnificent culture. This set of FOUR is a definite SCORE!! Do it… make them YOURS!!! This is a stunning vintage Asian style or chinoiserie entertainment storage cabinet by Baker, the Milling Road Line. It has an all-over sultry black lacquered finish with red peeking softly through the black giving it a beautiful Asian flair. The double doors are adorned with outer hinges on each door corner with circular hardware detail behind them and a lovely Asian style center circular hardware piece comprised of pewter-like patinated steel with three egg shaped pull details held by clasps and three rectangular brackets above holding a removeable Asian style metal rod lock which slides through each bracket to lock the cabinet. Cool feature with the double doors; they will open 90 degrees wide unless you unlatch the inside clasp and then they can open to 180 degrees and lay almost flat against the sides! Awesome!! The lower drawer features the same egg shaped pulls upon a circular pewter-like patinated hardware piece and pewter-like patinated feet caps on each foot. The details are simple but very stunning! When the double doors open it reveals a large open area with purposed holes or openings in the back and top of the cabinet, so if you choose to use it as an entertainment cabinet, it has proper air flow and is ready for your cords and components! Or if you choose, you could add more shelves or a hanging rod and use it as an armoire...

  • 20th Century Asian Sculpture Guan Yu Chinese Warrior Hand Carved Rosewood
    Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome vintage Asian Chinoiserie rosewood Guan Yu or Chinese warrior hand carved larger scale sculpture. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 20th Century. A warrior is one who sacrifices himself for the good of others. His task is to take care of the elderly, the defenseless, those who cannot provide for themselves, and above all, children- the future of humanity. This is a magnificent vintage Chinese warrior or Guan Yu sculpture comprised of stunning rosewood with intricately hand carved details and a removeable guandao (Chinese pole weapon). In Chinese culture, General Guan Yu represents loyalty and valor. People believe that by having his image in art or sculpture in their home will protect their family from harm. And while we don’t believe he is going to break out with any actual martial arts moves; his fearless presence commands the room and demands attention! You may notice that in some of the photos our warrior friend is holding his guandao upside-down, don’t judge! Even the best of warriors tend to get exhausted from a long day of defending humanity and protecting mankind. A guy can get a little turned around! Just look at his expression… he is OVER it!! His hand is even up gesturing as if to say, “Talk to the hand!” LOL!! He is handsomely dressed from head to toe in full body armor and his long beard or Fu Manchu is flowing in the breeze. He stands proud upon a rounded square base at about 24 inches tall, so he is definitely larger scale, he will be fabulous in ANY room of your home, and he is the EPITOME of Chinoiserie excellence! Don’t let this incredible hand carved rosewood Chinese warrior sculpture...
