Black Forest Red Deer Trophy on Painted Plaque - Germany 1916 An antique 8-pointer red deer trophy (Cervus elaphus) from Ruedenhausen Castle in Bavaria, mounted on a carved wooden plate with green, red and gilded painting. The trophy was shot by Casimir Prince of Castell Ruedenhausen in 1916. The place and date of the hunt are handwritten on the wooden plate. Good condition, plaque with some abreasions. Measures: Width: 14.17" (36 cm) Height: 25.59" (65 cm) Depth: 13.78" (35 cm) Trophies are mementos from the hunted game, which are kept by the huntsmen as a souvenir or decorative item. For many centuries it was a tradition to collect trophies. Nowadays exactly these are becoming more and more popular as decorative highlights in hunting lodges. This article contains parts of animal origin, which belong to non-endangered and non-threatened animals and follow the US Fish & Wildlife regulations. They are not listed on CITES Appendix I and II.
