About the Item

Huge oblong low bowl from Kähler´s ceramic workshop in Denmark. Made ca 1950s. The shape of the bowl was designed and made by Nils Kähler and the hanpainted decoration is by artist Gete Petersen. The decor shows a large stylised bird and it's decorated with well-coordinated colors. It has a structured surface. Gete Petersen was employed at Kähler´s as a sculptor, turner and artist and she decorated her own motifs from 1948 until the early 1960s. She had her own style and especially drew inspiration from the nature. The nature was not imitated directly but translated into geometric patterns which were decorated in different colors sharply separated from each other so the glazes don´t run together. Handsigned with HAK + Nils (for Nils Kähler) and stamped Gete + Denmark. Length: 50 cm (19.69") Width: 20,7 cm (8.15") Height: 5,3 cm (2.09") Good vintage condition with several glaze chips around the outer rim. This piece is made from earthenware so it´s quite delicate and chip on these pieces are very commonly seen.
