Fausta Dossi Textured Oil on Canvas "Cieli Australi", circa 2009

About the Item

Abstract Oil Painting on Canvas by Fausta Dossi (B 1936) This is an abstract oil painting on canvas created by Fausta Dossi, a renowned Italian artist from Milan, in 2007. The painting is titled "Cieli Australi" which translates to "Southern Skies" in English. It is signed by the artist and the title is also written on the reverse side of the canvas. The painting features a dynamic composition with a variety of shapes and colors that create a sense of movement and energy. The brushstrokes are thick and expressive, adding texture and depth to the work. The color palette is bold and vibrant, with shades of, blue white, and black dominating the piece. Overall, this painting is a stunning example of abstract art and would make an excellent addition to any art collection Born in 1936, Fausta Dossi grew up during the 1950s and was inspired by the artistic culture of the time. Abstract Expressionism, a form of painting that explored notions of spirituality and the sublime, dominated the 1950s. Many artists focused on the formal properties of painting, and action painting was influenced by the political freedom of the United States, as opposed to the strict nature of the Soviet bloc. Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Frank Kline, Barnett Newman, Clyfford Still and Adolph Gottlieb were influential artists of this time. The male dominated environment has been subsequently revisited to recognise the contributions of female artists such as Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, and Louise Bourgeois, amongst others.
