FRAMED OTTOMAN HAND-BLOCK PRINTED AND EMBROIDERED TEXTILE
A wonderful framed antique Ottoman embroidered textile, backed onto vintage hand loomed linen.
Ottoman textiles are renowned for their elegance and craftsmanship, representing some of the finest examples of Islamic textile production. Skilled artisans would work with silk and metallic threads to create intricate designs characterised by stylised motifs including floral and geometric patterns, as well as animals and human figures. Silk and shimmering metallic threads were used to create clothing, textiles and household items. These luxurious fabrics were produced for both domestic use within the Ottoman Empire and export to Europe and the Middle East.
Antique Ottoman embroidery refers to the traditional textile art that was practiced during the Ottoman Empire (13th Century to early 20th Century).
