Hand Woven Wall Panel - Merino & Yak - "Across The Universe" by Atelier Le Traon

About the Item

This one-of-a-kind textile creation is a hand woven transcription of music, a signature feature of Atelier Le Traon’s textile art. Each color represents a note; lines and columns adopt the rhythms of the composition: the fabric has become a music score… Woven with a soft and luxurious blend of geelong merino wool and yak down, this both graphic and tactile panel takes its design form the melody of “Across The Universe”, one of the Beatles' most beautiful songs. In its width, the panel unrolls the melody of the mantra "Jai Guru Deva Om" at the heart of the song. In its length, it unrolls the melody carrying the following lyrics: “ Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting // Through my opened mind // Possessing and caressing me...” . . The panel comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by author weaver Mathieu Le Traon, that provides information on how to “decipher” the creation. The back of the panel is upholstered with cotton & linen herringbone chevron fabric. The creation is unique and bears number 79 in Atelier Le Traon’s collection. . . Wall panels created by Atelier Le Traon are a celebration of the tactility of rare wools, cashmere, yak down and other luxury fibers. Panels meant to be looked at, but also to be caressed… . Wool and related fibers bring a distinctive atmosphere of warmth and quiet luxury to interiors: an intimate feeling of comfort, protection and serenity.

  • Hand Woven Wall Panel - Triptych "#90 - Blue Wensleydale" by Atelier Le Traon
    By Atelier Le Traon
    Located in PARIS, FR
This hand woven triptych, with its straight lines and light optical effect, has been specially designed to highlight the qualities of Wensleydale wool. . Exceptionally long, supple and silky, this rare wool produces dense, soft and luminous fabrics. The pattern was specifically chosen to allow these qualities to express themselves. . The pattern on the intermediate panel (40 x 20) features the reverse side of the fabric, reinforcing the graphic dynamics of the whole. . This textile panel has been conceived as a tactile tableau, to be touched as much as to be seen... . Born of cross-breeding in the 19th century, the Wensleydale breed of sheep, originally from Yorkshire, is now considered threatened and at risk of extinction, with a flock of less than 1,500 breeding ewes in the UK. . . The panel comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by author weaver Mathieu Le...

This recent artwork from the w o o d p o p studio is an example of the type of modern marquetry that w o o d p o p is becoming synonymous with. Since its inception 10 years ago - the studio has specialised in marquetry and inlay work; meticulous art-forms where pieces of wood veneer are inlaid to create decorative designs or pictures. Emma Wood, who founded the studio 10 years ago in Wales' Black Mountains has gained a reputation for pairing this traditional art-form with contemporary subject matter and its application on to non-traditional surfaces. This "ATOMS OF THE UNIVERSE" marquetry artwork is inspired by the Platonic Solids...
