Large Art Nouveau Gouda Zuid Holland Plateel charger, 1901-1903
A ceramic charger measuring 38 cm diagonal, made in the Netherlands by Gouda Zuid Holland Plateelbakkerij. Designed by Theo Verstraaten, who worked there from 1901 to 1903. The mark of Gouda Plateelbakkerij and the designer's initials are on the back. A number 1 is also carved on the back. .This large of 38 cm diagonal plate has a glossy glaze featuring crackle, dark colors, and typical Art Nouveau elements
Gouda pottery, produced by Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland, is often recognizable by a mark on the base, usually a small house that refers to the Lazaruspoort gate in Gouda, where the factory was located. This small house has various shapes. The factory, also known as Plazuid or PZH, primarily produced glossy pottery in the Art Nouveau style between 1898 and 1965 in The Netherlands
