About the Item
A large Limoges enamel plaque depicting the Annunciation, rounded at the top, signed and dated in gold (S.C.) N.B. 1543.
Dimensions: 24.5 x 19 cm.
Incl. frame 33.5 x 26.7 x 1.5 cm.
Provenance: Dutch private collection
Originally the plaque was rectangular, it is rounded at the top. Overall in good condition for its age, some minor restorations.
Little is known about this anonymous master, 'N.B.', but he has been described working in the manner of Leonard Limosin (Verdier 1967, p. 176).
Comparable examples: Cat. Th. Flannery coll. Sotheby, London, Lot. no. 210 with the same signature and two plaques Musée de Cluny Paris dated 1543.
