Pair of 19th C Mahogany Portrait Wall Plaques the Composers Rossini and Auber

A pair of 19th c mahogany portrait wall plaques The Composers Rossini And Auber Remarkable exhibition quality carving into solid turned rich dense mahogany plaques. The two portraits have carved titles below, Rossini and Auber. Each one depicts a superb classical style portrait of the French and Italian composers who were both very popular in the early 19th century. They were both famous operatic composers each responsible for writing 39 popular operas at this time. Gioachino Rossini was born in 1792 in the Italian town of Pesaro which was on the Adriatic coast and at this date part of the Papal States. He died in 1868. The other, Daniel Francois Esprit Auber was born in Caen, France in 1782 and died in 1871. Both plaques are very finely carved with great detail in dense mahogany. They both have a rich colour and fine patination and are both in excellent original condition. Italian Grand Tour, Circa 1840 Dimensions: W 14.5 cm (5.7") x D 2 cm (0.8") x H 14.5 cm (5.7").
