About the Item
Pair of collages monogrammed and dated Norbert Krabbe 1997.

Norbert Krabbe (1951 Demmin, lives since 2005 in Koserow) is an artistic autodidact.
In 1976 he made the acquaintance with painters of the Dresden scene, he maintained close contacts with painters of the artist group "Lücke" founded by A.R.Penck. From 1981, after all his painter friends moved to West Germany, he was only able to work in isolation, and in 1982-89 he was banned from exhibiting. In 1990 he made the acquaintance of the Berlin gallery owner Michael Schultz, participation in international art fairs and exhibitions followed. In 1993 the group of artists "NORA" was founded. There are four instructive and innovative years of cooperation within the group of artists. In 1997 the group NORA dissolved and the individual work moved back into the foreground. 1997-2004 Norbert Krabbe lives and works first in Neubrandenburg, from 2005 he moves his center of life to Koserow on Usedom. - As the only representative of informal art on Usedom, Norbert Krabbe pursues with unwavering consistency an artistic attitude that rejects the classical principle of form and composition as well as geometric abstraction. Exhibitions of recent years, such as "When the yellow breaks up the gray" (2011) or "54°3'N 14°E" (2016) showed an artist whose lyrical-meditative creations on the one hand have high recognition value, on the other hand surprise with their richness of form and mutability, without ever falling into arbitrariness.
Norbert Krabbe's pictures do not primarily want to be recognized, but felt. First of all, there is the effect of the color - individually or as a chord; structures announce conflicts and changes to which everything is subjected; bizarre form formations arise and create tensions in the picture structure - the viewer dives deeper and deeper into a picture organism that seems to lead a life of its own. Then, at some point, a mental process is also set in motion; one begins to interpret and philosophize. In this dialogue, the viewer is no longer just a consumer of a preconceived opinion, of a created work of art, but has to contribute himself, with his imagination, his experiences and feelings. This discussion, this dialogue can be continued and taken up anew at will in the case of a good picture - one can hardly "see over" such a picture. However, this is also where the artist's powerlessness begins, because the viewer must be inwardly ready to communicate and thereby also reveal something of himself - perhaps people have such a hard time with non-objective art because they shy away from this "giving", be it because they simply don't take the time that such a picture needs or because they are afraid to show individuality and feeling, to explore their own subconscious.

Short Biography:
Wolfgang E. Biedermann was born in 1940 in Hannover - dece. 2008 in Leipzig
Already as a high school student Wolfgang E. Biedermann's artistic talent was recognized by Ursula Mattheuer-Neustädt.
She promoted him to evening studies at the Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) Leipzig.
From 1961 Biedermann studied at the HGB in the specialist class for free graphics and painting with Gerhard Kurt Müller, completing his studies in 1967.
Since 1968 Biedermann was active as a freelance artist in Leipzig.
He undertook study trips to Poland, France and Indonesia, as well as to the USSR and the USA.
From 1968 to 1991 he was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR and since 1996 a member of the Free Academy of Arts in Leipzig.
The unique encounter with the German action artist Joseph Beuys had a great impact on Biedermann.
The artistic work of Wolfgang E. Biedermann spanned from 1960 to 2008.
His œuvre is characterized by the development of his own technique.
In addition to drawings and sketches of the early work for study purposes he dealt over the years primarily with printing practices.
He produced numerous abstract paintings and works on paper using color etching and silkscreen processes as well as multi-plate overprinting.
Biedermann relied on different layering by means of various techniques of graphics and painting.
He dealt extensively with overdrawing and overpainting his works. Repeating motifs are symbols, signs, ciphers and writings, which are based on Asian calligraphy.
Biedermann dealt just as intensively with the content of philosophical writings by Peter Sloterdijk and with letters from the estate of Friedrich Schiller,
which he transposed into the paintings. His color-intensive paintings reflect "inner landscapes". Klaus Werner coined this term as early as 1980 for the complete works of Wolfgang E. Biedermann.
Since 1977 Wolfgang E. Biedermann presented his artworks at various exhibitions.
On the occasion of his 50th birthday, the Lindenau Museum in Altenburg exhibited a comprehensive selection of 130 works in 1990.
NordLB - Art, Hannover accompanied his further creative process for almost ten years with work locations in Berlin (Sony Center), Singapore, Zurich and Hamburg.
At the EXPO 2000 in Hanover, twelve of his large-scale works were on display in the German pavilion.
Parts of his œuvre have also been exhibited outside Germany in Tokyo, Paris, Damascus, Bilbao, Listovel, Mulhouse, Grenchen, Basel and Fredrikstad, among other places.
