About the Item

'Pelargonium Abd-el-Kader' framed print from 'Annales de la Societe royale d'agriculture et de botanique de Gand'. 1845, Ghent, Belgium. A lovely original lithography from the book 'Annales de la Societe royale d'agriculture et de botanique de Gand', published by the 'Societe royale d'agriculture et de botanique 1845-1849'. It shows a pair of 'Pelargonium Abd-el-Kader' flowers. Beautifully framed - presumably already in the late 19th century - in a very nice and delicate frame with velvet and wood. Wonderfully decorative piece! About the book: Extensive work written by Charles Morren (1807-1858), a botanist and horticulturist from Ghent and director of the botanical garden of the University of Liège. Illustrated with 5 identical engraved titles by Charles Onghena and 291 colored lithographed plates, 9 B&W plates, a colored fold-out plan and one in B&W. The colored plates depict flowers or fruits. Among the black plates are the castle and greenhouses of Baron F. J. A. Heynderycx, senator and vice-president of the Royal Agricultural and Botanical Society of Ghent. The color plan shows the country garden of Leuven resident Rosseels, winner of the 131st competition for the National Exhibition in Brussels in 1848. About ORNAMENTUM ORNAMENTUM - where we find perfection in imperfection, love a good patina and are always on the lookout for wonderful and unique pieces both vintage and antique.
