“The Point” – Early 20th Century Embossed Copper Hunting Scene in Ornate Frame

About the Item

A finely detailed early 20th century repoussé (embossed) copper relief plaque depicting a classic English hunting scene. In the foreground, two alert hunting dogs stand poised in tall grass, while a gentleman with rifle follows in the background beneath a canopy of leafy trees. The entire woodland setting is richly textured, with intricate flora and dynamic composition giving depth and movement to the scene. The copper panel is signed in the lower left corner, though partially obscured by patina. The surrounding frame features deep foliate and medallion motifs in a matching embossed copper finish, with warm natural wear and oxidation lending character to both materials. The inner velvet liner (now worn) adds a subtle contrast and depth between the relief and frame. Marked “1919” on the back in handwritten script, this piece is a compelling example of early 20th century sporting art, perfect for traditional, rustic, or lodge-inspired interiors. Dimensions: Approx. 9.5” H x 12.5” W x 1.25” D Condition: Good vintage condition with expected wear. The relief surface shows natural oxidation, one area of green verdigris (upper left), and some patina variation. The velvet liner is worn, with fraying at corners. Backing board is intact with age-related marks
