Set of Four Historized Scenes with Guess Faience Plates, France 19th C

About the Item

French set of four faience plates, made in the manufacture of Sarreguemines in the late 19th century. This set of historyzed plates has on each plate a riddle: one of the two characters tells it to a listener (the answers are on the back of each plate). The details of the costumes and sets are very neat and pitoresque. The borders are decorated with vegetal decorations and sphinx (in reference to the Sphinx that poses an enigma to Eodipus in Greek mythology). A fifth plate is offrered because she is wronged. This does not hinder the reading of the image. Good condition. Shipping: 20/20/6 cm.
