Large plaster jardinière wall planter from the "Les Vagues" series made in France in the 1990s and designed by Jean Boggio for Les He´ritiers. Plant sconce is made of white staff, or plaster mixed with fibrous material, traditionally used in French wall moldings. Les Héritiers are known to use the techniques and materials of artisanal French craft in their production of contemporary designs, a trademark exemplified here. The inverted triangle shape recalls the shape of a torch and the scrolling volumes form a landscape of spirals culminating in small, round points. This piece is from the series called "Les Vagues", French for waves. Each volume reflects light differently; shadows accentuate the slopes of each scroll. Robust, this piece has a substantial weight of 10 lbs (4.5 kg) and an ornamentation that is both classic and surreal. Jean Boggio worked for Hermes, Baccarat, Daum, Haviland, Ritz and Longwy.
