These 6 original engravings from the series Les Gueux were magnificently engraved in the 17th century. The set is very decorative. These subjects are engraved and represent Italian beggars. They belong to the series of twenty-five beggars or beggars, probably drawn in Florence and printed in Nancy around 1622 / 23. The 6 engravings are numbers 21 - 15 - 5 - 7 - 14 - 13 which represent: No. 5: the beggar on crutches wearing a hat and seen from behind No. 7: the beggar woman with the rosary No. 13: the puny man No. 14: the beggar with a wooden leg No. 15: the one-eyed woman No. 21: the obese beggar with downcast eyes Beautiful gilded frame. Each engraving is elegantly framed with a gilded mat. Dimensions of each engraving (in the mat): height: 14.5 cm / length 9.5 cm Jacques Callot, born in Nancy in 15921 and died in Nancy on March 24, 16352, was a designer and engraver from Lorraine. Among his best-known works is a series of eighteen etchings entitled Les Grandes Misères de la guerre (or Les Misères et les malheurs de la guerre), evoking the ravages of the Thirty Years' War which was then taking place in Europe. He is considered one of the masters of etching. His style is characterized by the clarity of the line and the depth of the inking, which allow his etchings to be perfectly legible, despite the frequent abundance of scenes and characters, on engravings with often limited surface areas.
