Lithograph "Sails" by Michele Cascella 1960s

About the Item

Lithograph titled "Sails", created by Michele Cascella in the 1960s. Ø cm 38 h cm 29 including frame Michele Cascella (Ortona, September 7, 1892 – Milan, August 31, 1989) was an important Italian painter and landscape artist, known for his crepuscular style and his ability to capture the beauty of the Italian landscape. Born in Ortona, in Abruzzo, into a family of artists, Cascella would show a talent for painting from a young age. He began his artistic training in his father's workshop, who was also a painter and lithographer, where he learned the techniques of painting and engraving. His style was influenced by Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting, but he developed a personal language characterized by a particular attention to light and atmosphere, with tones often delicate and melancholic. Cascella mainly dedicated himself to painting landscapes, both rural and urban, with a preference for views of the Italian countryside, still lifes, and scenes of everyday life. His paintings are characterized by a great chromatic sensitivity and a light, vibrant brushstroke. Throughout his long career, Cascella exhibited his works in numerous solo and group exhibitions, both in Italy and abroad, receiving important accolades, including the gold medal at the International Exhibition in Paris in 1937. During World War I, Cascella was called to arms and documented military life with his paintings. Some of these works are now preserved at the Museum of the Risorgimento. After the war, he settled in Milan and dedicated himself to various artistic techniques, including ceramics, lithography, watercolor, and oil painting. He continues to paint landscapes and urban views, developing an increasingly personal and recognizable style.
