During his reign, Antoninus repaired and completed many architectural projects, and it is remembered as one of relative peace. Due to the expanse of the Roman Empire, and its short distance to contemporary Germany, German school artists are familiar with classical history and art. The portrait drawing portrays Antoninus wearing heavy drapery across his shoulders, like the common attribute of his sculptures.
