About the Item
Set of 4 Signed Walter Spies Watercolor Insect Studies – Framed & Custom Matted
An exceptional and rare set of four original watercolors by renowned artist Walter Spies, celebrated for his ethereal depictions of tropical life. Each delicately painted insect study captures the vivid beauty and intricate detail of its subject with remarkable finesse, showcasing Spies' signature ability to blend realism with artistic elegance.
These exquisite works are hand-signed by the artist, attesting to their authenticity and value. The watercolors feature vibrant, lifelike portrayals of various tropical insects, rendered with a mastery that reflects Spies' deep connection to the natural world during his time in Bali. Each piece is matted and framed with care, preserving the integrity of the artwork while enhancing its visual appeal. Walter Spies was a Russian-born German primitivist painter, composer, musicologist, and curator. In 1923 he moved to Java, Indonesia. He lived in Yogyakarta and then in Ubud, Bali starting from 1927, when Indonesia was under European colonial rule as the Dutch East Indies.
The works were purchased from a respected dealer in San Francisco in 2006, ensuring their provenance and quality. They remain in pristine condition given the time of creation, representing an extraordinary opportunity for collectors seeking rare, original works by this acclaimed artist.
Presented by MWM DESIGN INTERIORS, known for curating the finest selection of decorative objects, case pieces, furniture, and fine art, this set of watercolors is a truly remarkable find for our discerning 1st Dibs clientele, offering both historical significance and artistic beauty.
