About the Item
A whimsical illustrative figurative gouache painting in lovely blue tones by Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad. Hand signed on the bottom left and dated 1977. In the early 1970s, Wiinblad designed ceramic pieces for Nymolle, a Danish pottery. This painting is reminiscent of those designs as it was created during the same timeframe. Wiinblad's work has been shown widely in Europe, in the United States of America first in 1954 and in Japan, Australia and Canada in 1968. Wiinblad was named Man of the Year in New York in 1985 and was awarded the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s Cultural Prize of 1995. Museums the world over have Wiinblad's work in their collections. Among these are the Victoria and Albert Museum in London; the Museum of Modern Art in New York; and Stockholm's National Museum. His large ceramics and tapestries have been used for hotel decorations in Japan and the United States. Dimensions: 33.25"w x 2.75"d x 41.25"h (framed). In very good vintage condition.
