About the Item
This pair of landscapes by Charles H. Chapin (1830-1889) features a doe and a fisherman in a small boat. Chapin painted landscapes that reflect the drama and emotional expression characteristic of 19th-century landscape painting, especially the excitement over natural wonders such as the Grand Canyon and scenes in the Adirondack Mountains. He also was the illustrator of Civil War scenes for Harper's weekly in 1864. These paintings are in the style of his other Hudson River paintings, likely paintings of the Adirondack Mountains. Both images are 11 5/8 x 9 5/8 and framed are 15 3/4 x 12 3/4.
