Dimensions of the canvas : 40,5 x 71 cm Dimensions with its frame : 61 x 89 cm To note - On the back : Stamp HCD in hollow. Panel with the mention "P.HUSSON a paris 1907 n°1218" and double stamp with a duck. Artist exhibited in Paris at the Carnavalet Museum, the Museum of Louviers and the Museum of Fine Arts in Béziers. >> DELPY Hippolyte Camille (1842-1910) Hippolyte Camille DELPY was born on April 16, 1842 into a bourgeois family in Joigny, in the Yonne. In 1855, he became a student of Charles-François Daubigny and became friends with the painter's son, Karl, who was about the same age as him and was also a painter. During the summers, Delpy joined the Daubigny family and went on excursions with them aboard their workshop boat. He meets, thanks to Daubigny, the artist Camille Corot. Corot encouraged and advised Delpy. His technique, mixed with a vivid palette and a rigorous touch, tend to link the influence of the Impressionists and the Barbizon School. In 1869, Delpy sent his first works to the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. At that time, Delpy regularly visited Ville-d'Avray, Corot's favorite site, and Auvers-sur-Oise, where Daubigny had lived, and became friends with Pissarro and Cézanne, who shared his admiration for Daubigny. His paintings presented at the 1873 and 1874 Salons were well received. In 1875, he presented for the first time a snow scene at the Salon and received the praise of the famous art critic, Jules-Antoine Castagnary. He alternated stays on the Normandy coast, in the forest of Fontainebleau and in Paris, where he regularly exhibited at the Salon. He received his first medal in 1884. In 1886, Delpy became a member of the Society of French Artists. In 1889, at the Universal Exhibition, Delpy received an honorable mention. Georges Petit, a leading Parisian gallery owner of contemporary French painting, began to sell his paintings and organized several solo exhibitions for him as far away as England. Hippolyte Camille Delpy died on June 5, 1910 in Paris. His son, Henry-Jacques Delpy, was also a landscape painter.
